Craniosacral Therapy for Babies

Craniosacral therapy for babies

It is difficult to make the transition from the womb to the world! Newborns can face dozens of challenges such as tongue binding, poor sucking, colic, gas, constipation, torticollis, reflux, fussy baby, flat head, hyper/hypotension, teething, ear infections and more.

Many of these issues could actually be implications for birth interventions such as vacuum extraction, forceps, or cesarean section. And many of them can actually be helped gently and naturally with a handy technique called craniosacral therapy. Not only can craniosacral therapy help a baby lighten, it can also help new parents as they adjust to their new roles as mother and father. Bonding and bonding increases as the new baby is able to find more comfort in their new life. In babies, undue stress or overload from fetal positioning, delivery, or other events can lead to flow restrictions.

When these restrictions are lifted, the nervous system and many other aspects of bodily functioning are relaxed. Movement in the body and in the entire organic system of the human body works harmoniously when the cerebral spine moves slightly. During an appointment, the Craniosacral Therapist will ask about conception, pregnancy, childbirth and the immediate postpartum period. Then he or she will use his or her hands to "listen" or feel the patient's tissues and membranes to determine if the cerebral spinal fluid is restricted. There is a specific flow that can be sampled by experienced practitioners. There is no stretching or rotation - the movement comes from deep in the cerebral spine. A typical session for a baby can last around 60-90 minutes. The number of treatments for a given problem may vary depending on the depth of the disability. The results of the treatments can last 1-3 days as this technique is a holistic full body treatment that works slowly, gently and deeply. The bones, cartilage, tissues, fluids, membranes, fascia, and brain all respond and release tightness. Babies are fully clothed for their sessions and are often treated in their parents' arms or lying on their backs. Craniosacral Therapy treatments use a very light touch. Craniosacral can be used from birth. If you notice your baby is unwell or has any of the issues listed above, you may want to seek help.
